Online Engineering Management ME Overview

The Master of Engineering in Engineering Management prepares engineers for a technology-driven management environment. Increases professional skills to manage and lead by integrating technology and business. Develops effective response strategies to real-world business challenges. The curriculum is consistent with the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) guidelines.

The Master of Engineering in Engineering Management program is proud to be a Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) participant. The WRGP allows students who are residents of Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) states to enroll in programs outside of their home state at resident tuition rates.

Program Details

The UCCS Master of Engineering in Engineering Management program will prepare engineers for effective technical management through a series of courses focused on the key skills needed to be successful in a technology-driven work environment. Flexibility in program timing and modality is designed to accommodate today's working professional.

Program graduates will know and be able to perform in the following areas:

  • Systems engineering life cycle process
  • Finance and accounting principles applied to engineering organizations
  • Leadership and management skills for a rapidly changing technological world

Curriculum Overview

The Master of Engineering in Engineering Management degree program consists of 30 semester hours of coursework comprising 21 hours of core courses and 9 hours of emphasis courses.

  • EMGT 5010 - Intro to the Systems Perspective
  • EMGT 5110 - Systems Engineering Processes
  • EMGT 5050 - Engineering Project Management
  • EMGT 5020 - Finance & Accounting for Engineering Managers 
  • EMGT 5030 - Project Estimation and Risk Analysis
  • EMGT 5510 - Leadership for Engineers
  • EMGT 5610 - Engineering Management Capstone

Business Emphasis (9 credit hours)

  • MKTG 6000 - Marketing Strategy
  • OPTM 6000 - Operations: Competing Through Capabilities
  • QUAN 5500 - Fundamentals of Business Statistics

Accepted ME Engineering Management students may request to substitute certain Business courses for QUAN 5500. Students must meet approved program criteria to qualify for substitution. The criteria include having earned a B or better in a Probability & Statistics course within the last 5 years. Contact the department for information.

Admissions Information

The minimum requirements for regular admission are as follows:

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or a related science discipline from an accredited institution.
  • An overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0.
  • Undergraduate coursework completed with a grade of B or better in:
    • Engineering Economics
    • Statistics
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in industrial, civil or government engineering or a technical professional position is preferred.

An applicant who lacks one or more of the above requirements may be admitted on a provisional basis, subject to the recommendations of the Master of Engineering Graduate Committee and approval by the UCCS Graduate School.

Degree Completion

Course work must be completed with a 3.0 GPA or better, and all course work applied to the program (including any transfer credit) must have been completed no earlier than 6 years prior to degree completion. Up to 9 semester hours of graduate work may be transferred from an accredited graduate program, provided course work has not been used for any other degree, the grade earned for the course is B or better, and the course content has been approved by the program director.
